The 11th ranked Yellow Jackets returned home to face The Citadel one week after narrowly defeating the Syracuse Orangemen 13-7 in the season opening Kickoff Classic. Tech was expected to fare much better against the 1-AA Bulldogs and would not disappoint.

The Wreck got off to a fast start, taking the opening possession 72 yards in five plays for a touchdown while consuming just 77 second of game time. Joe Burns added the touchdown on the ground for the Jackets, scoring from one yard out to make it 7-0.

On its next possession, Tech marched 56 yards in four plays to extend the lead to 14-0. George Godsey connected with Jonathan Smith on a 40 yard touchdown pass for the score with nine and a half minutes to play in the opening period.

The Jackets would score once more in the first quarter when Godsey hooked up with Kerry Watkins on a 13 yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 21-0 with 5:44 to play.

Joe Burns notched his second touchdown in the second quarter to cap off a 4 play, 51 yard drive, and the Jackets would take a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Tech played the remainder of the game mainly with its reserves. Neither team would score in the third quarter, but the Jackets added a touchdown with ten minutes to play in the game on a one yard Jimmy Dixon touchdown run. The Bulldogs scored their only touchdown when Mazzie Drummond rolled out for a two yard touchdown run with 4:45 play.
